My comments on tutoring Calculus II : Math is one of my strongest and favorite subjects

My tutoring experience has begun in college, when I would assist with Japanese and math lessons between classes and the campus job. Over 12 years since then, regardless of where my professional life takes me, I have had the privilege of working with various clients in terms of age, background, and objectives. Thus far, the youngest was a second grader with mathematics, while the eldest was a professional with genuine interest in Japanese. I am very adaptive to students learning style. I usually spend the first ten minutes of our first meeting figuring out what the student is struggling with and how to best meet their needs. I try to teach students more how to think analytical more so then just solving problems because it is more beneficial to the student. I feel that if I can teach the student how to read theorems, understand concepts, then problems just become easy at that point.
I started tutoring part time in 2004 and have continued this throughout college. I worked as a math tutor for tulsa community college part time during the summer. I have earned over 190 hours of college credit, I have two degrees, and I am only 15 hours away from a chemical engineering degree.

I believe that a student should enjoy learning. I had some fantastic teachers who taught me to love learning and I try to emulate these teachers when I work with students. One of the main keys to helping a student enjoy learning is to empower them to learn on their own by helping the student connect with the material at a point of understanding so that they can venture out on their own in whatever direction is of interest to them. In my experience, most students are very close to a point of understanding and only need some personalized instruction to make the final few steps.
