A Little Bit About Me...

I attended a preparatory school in Junior High and High School. I then went on to Mississippi College where I obtained a Bachelor degree in Home Economics with an emphysis on Fashion Merchandising. When I became a mom, I decided to home school my kids so that I could take an active part in their education and I could guide them in ways that someone else might not find interesting or important.
I love to learn and everyone learns differently. I believe that if the information is not being understood one way, then we need to find another way to instruct. Hands-on learning and learning through experience always leaves a lasting impression. Just memorizing facts, although in some cases that is necessary, it is just not fun for all students and just may not stick unless learned in a fun way. I graduated from Northeastern State University in 2008 with a bachelors degree in Elementary Education. I have been teaching for a year at a public school. I have also tutored students in math and reading during a college course,and here at my current job as well. During college I took many science classes that were required for the Nursing program (which was my first major). I have taken the following college science courses and can provide you with my transcript if needed. Here are the classes: General Biology, Human Anatomy, Microbiology, General Physiology, Principles of Chemistry, General Physical Science, and Science in the Elementary School. My teaching style is one generally "getting on the students level." I explain things in both word and action helping the student to understand more clearly. I have been able to achieve great results from my students by clearly explaining things to their understanding levels. I like to have fun with my students, using games and art as teaching tools when applicable, regardless of their age. I also like to teach organizational skills to help the student become a better student and overall person. My goal in life has always been to make a difference in someone's life and I have found that teaching has helped me to achieve that goal time and time again.
