A Little Bit About Me...

During my undergraduate, I had multiple field studies in middle and high school classes. I also had to tutor elementary students through my college for certain reading classes. During my last semester, I filled a permanent substitute position for 7th grade intensive reading. In the 2022-2023 school year, I taught STEM language arts for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade.
My teaching style focuses on modeled and guided discussions so that students can talk through their understanding so I can remediate and reteach to ensure that they are learning and they find confidence in their learning.

I've taught in public school and private school from PreK through 12th grade and even adult learners. Elementary students have learned to read. A high school senior learned to do basic math for the first time in his life. Homeschooling my own children was another such amazing time in my growth as an educator. My comments on tutoring Poetry : Words are meant to be utilized in their fullest and Poetry helps us put feelings into the words. In Poetry the many words on the page not only express a meaning, but they are the meaning in it's purest form. One must understand this and not only write, but put love into the words that he or she puts down.

I love getting students interested in subjects before I start teaching them. There's no point in walking through a tunnel if you never see the light at the end of it. This can be done in many different ways such as comparing it to real life or showing what can be done with the knowledge acquired. The best way for students to start learning is to compare it to things they already know. For example, I explain a "Class", which is a term in the computer language Java, to an object in real life and all the different "methods", another computer science term, with all the different things that that object can do.

A Little Bit About Me...

My experience is more hands-on and personal, I suppose. I love history and write constantly, in addition to having a great interest in photography and television. I majored in American Studies which focused on history and culture in the US, and minored in Creative Writing and Digital Arts. It is a dream of mine to help others learn, as I think college and knowledge is an incredible and necessary aspect that people need.

English/Language Arts Tutor

While attending Texas Tech University I was employed by the Marsha Sharp Center for Student Athletes as a tutor and worked with athletes in the following subject areas: English, Spanish, Art History, History, and Political Science. I was also a summer school teacher for a non-profit organization called Shalom Readers and led a classroom of children between 6 and 8 years of age.
