College educated years of experience with "At Risk" students

Besides my degree in BioChemistry I have also completed minors in cellular/molecular biology, and art. While studying at Albion college I worked on two separate college funded research teams as well as worked as a TA with large groups of students as well as small groups. After graduation I worked at a public high school in Flint, Michigan as an at risk interventionalist. This involved working specifically in science classrooms with at risk students as well as working in my own classroom either one on one or in small groups.
I believe that every student I have ever worked with has been more than capable of understanding and excelling at whatever material we are working on. I started teaching chemistry in 1964. During my child-raising years, I did a lot of substitute teaching in various subjects, and worked at part-time and temporary classroom teaching and tutoring. My longest position was at University of Massachusetts, Lowell campus, (1993 through 2004, before moving to Florida), teaching 3 different levels of Freshman Chemistry. I have tutored chemistry, math, and biology in Florida since 2007, as an employee of Advanced Learning Center, St. Petersburg, until 2011, and independently to the present time. A major portion has been at Shorecrest Prep, St Petersburg, 2007 to now. I have met students at school, home, libraries and other public places. Hands on, and more of an application study. I believe that the only way to actually understand something is being able to apply it to real world situations.
My experience is all in college. I had 9 Labs in college in all my science courses. I excelled very well in my science courses and i keep learning. Did great in my research project class. Played college baseball so i am great with athletes that do not want to study. I can break down big concepts into smaller concepts that is understandable for all students in the academia process. I studied a lot myself to achieve success in college and do well in classes.

The children I nannied were in Elementary school and were sent home with homework almost daily. I found the two girls had their individual weaknesses and I believe that I helped them through the tough questions. I would give them hints or different approaches in solving problems until they were able to solve all of the problems on their own. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is very specific to each student I tutor. I try to tailor my thoughts so that any student at any level in the subject can understand me. At the teaching center, the focus was to help guide the student to get the correct answer and not just give the answer. Sometimes the thinking process to achieving the correct answer is more important than the answer itself. I also try using diagrams and figures when they are called for to explain some of the topics. I frequently use positive reinforcement so the student feels even more encouraged to learn.

Throughout college and high school, I always aspired to learn and took the most difficult courses. I recently graduated from the University of South Florida and earned a BS in Biology. My major course work was in biology, physics, calculus, and other physical sciences. I am also fluent in spanish, great at proofreading and assisting in writing, and also able to teach sports.
