A Little Bit About Me...

As a parent, I was able to finish my degree in 2003 and return back to college as an adult student. Being a parent as well as a teacher for five years, I saw that the experience of parenting firsthand before actually teaching in the classroom was very beneficial. I love the youth and the teens, and was hired as a Language Arts teacher for a junior high private school for the last five years. I taught English, writing skills, religion, and Literature. Because I was recently a graduate in 2003, I knew that the students needed to learn writing skills and therefore prepared them for for high school writing. I believe in teaching the whole student. I wanted to make a difference in a teens life. I have learned so much from teaching.

I have just completed my 9th year of teaching in Spring 2009, in which I have mostly taught Mathematics as well as Language Arts, History, and Religion. My BS in Elementary Education along with my teaching minor in Math, has enabled me to gain an understanding of not only math, but also the average student as well; no matter what the age. In addition, I started my Masters in Educational Technology through Marian University in the Fall 2008, and I will graduate in the spring of 2010. Many of my papers, projects, and group interactions were centered around the themes of Math from 5th thru 12 th grade.

I don't have a wide teaching experience but I do enjoy working and helping Elementary or junior high leveled children. Ay my most recent job, I worked in a dept called 'PLAYLAND" where I was responsible for taking care and keeping the children of our customers entertained and busy as their parent's shopped for groceries. I have also assisted a choir class in high school for kids around my age at the time. I believe I am very good with children and I can show them much support and confidence in themselves with their struggle through their learning. I know I can be trusted and loyal to these students. From my tutoring experiences last year, my teaching style would best be described as very proactive. Many of the students were extremely frustrated by the concepts that they did not understand. This created an apathetic attitude towards the subject. Due to the lack of interest that I observed, I decided to go through problem by problem with the students. I talked them through each problem, and asked the students questions, but required them to calculate the answer. As we practiced and practiced, the students began to use the techniques that I taught them to calculate the answers on their own.
