A Little Bit About Me...

Anyone can learn a language. I believe that each student learns differently. It is imporant to find out what the style is and create lessons accordingly. In learning a new language, I feel it is most important visual, audio and writing tools into every lesson. I am easy-going, patient, fun-loving, yet stern. These are very important and necessary qualities for a teacher to have. I strive for my students to feel the same passion I feel for languages.
Since high school, I have had the opportunity to share my passion with others intermittantly, sometimes through formal tutoring sessions and sometimes in a more laidback environment. Although my work experience is in a business-like environment, I have learned the tools to communicate clearly and effectively with a variety of personalities. The extensive essays and research papers I have written in Italian have developed my gramm ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My personal teaching philosophy is that there is no teaching without learning. Most classroom studies are at least partly removed from their intended application, for reasons of assuring comprehensive competency and because of the educational structure, i.e. attending school comes in advance of and separately from applying one’s knowledge. However, learning a language, for example and especially while living in it has both a need for constant practice and occasion for immediate application. The broader linguistic community has thusly prioritized practical teaching methods, of which I wish to avail myself.
I am a recent Bachelor of Arts graduate with a double major in Philosophy and Political Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Florham Park, NJ. During the latter part of my college experience, I began teaching in K-12 classrooms. Quickly and suddenly, I realized that I ... read more

As a Kentuckian, I was very lucky to have the opportunity to study and excel in French and to study abroad in Japan in high school. These experiences, related to the smallness and isolation of my hometown, made me uniquely aware of and interested in international issues and foreign language learning and teaching. As I have studied various languages, the most important of which being French, Japanese, and Spanish, I have actively sought the chance to share the knowledge I have acquired. For this reason, I have taught French both as an instructor and tutor since the age of 16. Of course, this love of teaching languages has spilled over into tutoring children and adults in writing, ESL, and in my "home" discipline of political history.
I thoroughly believe that teaching is a mutual engagement - students are not just listening to the story, they are authoring it! For this, I often ... read more
