I am in a reading and writing program at Sonoma State called the Hutchins program. I have always been good at writing, and I absolutely love to write. I have a natural instinct to write and to help younger students find their voice through writing. I would say my teaching style is really focused on the student and what they need. In school I was an average student never getting lower than a C or higher than in an A. So I really want to focus on listening to the student, especially because they probably are not heard at school. I want to make each subject interesting to the student, whether that means going out and playing basketball or chess or candy or anything the student absolutely loves. My approach to teaching is to provide what is needed, and sometimes that is not limited to the explicit task at hand. As an English teacher/tutor, I have often found that, rather than merely showing students how to recognize a complete sentence and use correct punctuation and grammar, the more important thing is to prove to them that they can think, and that they are intelligent.
