A Little Bit About Me...

I taught 3 years in college--Freshman English, Grammar Basics, Composition, Speech, Literature, Business Communications. I was a Trainer and Communications Specialist in an industrial environment (17 years.) Trainer, U.S. Army Reserve, 2 years. In addition to my BA, I have over 100 graduate hours of continuing education in English, Education, Special Education, Reading, Technical Writing, and Popular Culture. My teaching style is based on the student. One teaching style does not fit everyone. I have to see how the student learns and then adapt my teaching style to meet his or her needs. I love helping people, and especially when they get it. That is so rewarding.
I was a tutor while in college. I tutored students in History, Accounting, and Greek. I was a double major:Accounting and Christian Ministry. I was a substitute teacher in Indiana from 1990-1994. I taught everything from Kindergarden to High School. I was a couple of teacher's personal sub. I also was involved with the program that dealt with students with developmental disabilites. Currently, I am homeschooling my daughter. She is very gifted, so we are letting her interests lead us. She is the hardest one I have ever taught, but that is because I am so close to her.

I have taught 4 and 5th grade in the Texas School Systems for 24 years. I worked as a retired teacher in the Adams Wells Special Services Coop for 3 years (2006-2009)as a teacher's aide with special needs students both in the elementary and high school levels. Those children varied from autistic, cerebal palsy, Attention Deficit Disorders with and without Hyperactivity. I really enjoyed working with these students to help them with their reading, math, and overall achievement. I am currently employed as a substitute teacher with the North Adams Community Schools on K-12 Levels. I also worked with the district in a specially funded program for a homework and tutoring afterschool program on 4th and Kindergarten levels.
