My comments on tutoring Drawing : I have taken 13 years of private art class, going through painting, drawing, sketching, sculpting. Oils, Acrylics, and Watercolors. (Oils and Acrylics are preferred).

I would say my teaching style is really focused on the student and what they need. In school I was an average student never getting lower than a C or higher than in an A. So I really want to focus on listening to the student, especially because they probably are not heard at school. I want to make each subject interesting to the student, whether that means going out and playing basketball or chess or candy or anything the student absolutely loves. I want to attach each subject to a good memory, I don't want to pressure them or push them to just memorize facts that I know they will probably forget after they are tested. From my own personal experience I want any student I tutor to turn around and actually enjoy learning about a subject they are having trouble with.

Drawing is one of my top subjects! I specialize in portraits, and love to share the process with those that are interested in learning the fundamentals of drawing.

I have been drawing since 1999, and have worked as a commissioned artist, participated in open studios, and had work in local galleries. After taking a hiatus, I have decided to jump back into the world of art, but in a different capacity....teaching. I consider myself a lifelong learner, and improved over the years by using my own unconventional practice techniques in addition to the occasional figure drawing classes.
My style of teaching is flexible. I cater my style to match the student.

I am a graduate student transitioning from physics to astrophysics, my goal being a PhD in Astrophysics. My undergraduate degree is a BS in Physics with a minor in astronomy. Because of the nature of physics, I have been exposed to many types of science and mathematics. Most recently I have been working as a physics instructor for The Princeton Review.
My philosophy of teaching is to train the student to think like a scientist and/or mathematician. It is not just about getting the right answer but rather understanding the fundamental principals of a subject. This enables the student to try previously unseen problems and succeed. I also believe in varying the techniques used. If a student has trouble with their teacher or text ... read more

My "teaching style" changes depending on the needs of my students. In all cases, an initial assessment of both the academic level and the temperament of each student are necessary before I establish a particular style. Some students are comfortable with a quieter, more formal tutor, while others are successful with a more casual, animated tutor. In every situation, I look for opportunities to give positive reinforcement. For example, I usually warm-up with material the student feels relatively confident about, then add new or more challenging concepts, and end with the student feeling successful practicing on his or her own.
I have enjoyed teaching and tutoring a wide range of students in a vast array of different settings. Most recently, I have tutored reading to 4th graders at an elementary school, taught ESL and GED subjects to adults through an adult education center, an ... read more

I am very excited about having the opportunity to work with children. I am a very open minded and patient person when it comes to learning. I feel that we all learn at different levels and paces. I believe that during the process of learning mistakes will be made, this an important part of the growth that is taking place. We learn from our mistakes. I believe that we need to make sure that the environment that the children are in makes them comfortable to try their best. I look forward to this exciting opportunity in educating the future!
