REAL LEARNING IS FUN, RISKY, DANGEROUS...BUT NEVER BORING :)

My experience spans both the ivory tower and the world of business and industry. I have observed that "TEACHING" is often associated with the ideas of "PRESENTATION" and "ACADEMIC ENTERTAINMENT". Honestly, for many students it is comforting, soothing, and safe to sit in a chair and listen to an "ADULT" sing to them in the language of Calculus, Organic Chemistry, Java, etc. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THAT APPROACH. Nevertheless, I too have sung to many students in the language of General Chemistry at the Junior College Level. The thing that allows a student to most effectively reach his or her possibilities is confidence. When teaching classes I like to provide a balance between oral, visual and hands-on teach techniques as studies show people learn in one or more of these three approaches. In my classes I try to provide exercises that touch on the core components of the lesson along with the theory and skills needed to succeed. Teaching is one of areas I got into in my career as I have always enjoyed mentoring younger developers in the Information Technology field. I find it very rewarding passing on the skills I have learned to others.
