My comments on tutoring Reading : Received a Masters in Reading and Curriculum in 2011.

As a teacher of diversified classrooms for 15 years, I am well versed in using the methodologies of cooperative learning, direct instruction, thematic teaching, individual accommodation, and differentiated instruction. I foster learning strengths in both group and individual work connected to real world connections, self confidence, social interaction, study skills, character building and problem solving skills. As a personal tutor for more than 10 years, I incorporate these methods with prompts and information about the child from the parents, to best accommodate both academic and personal concerns.
I have worked with children in a variety of settings and ages over the past 25 years: church camp counselor, gymnastics coach, dance instructor, theater, forensics judge, tutor, and classroom teacher. These experiences have both shaped my style of teaching and equipped me with a broad ... read more

Reading is one of my top subjects! I am an Orton Gillingham trained multi-sensory reading/spelling therapist. I use multi-sensory teaching techniques to tutor students with reading delays and dyslexia.

I have 20 years of teaching experience. I am an Orton Gillingham trained reading tutor for students with reading delays and dyslexia. I teach both math and reading in a multi-sensory way in which students can experience learning with both their hands and mind. This method helps students remember the information better to scaffold learning. I am experienced in teaching students grades 1-8. I am also currently pursuing my degree in Special Education through Concordia University. Projected completion date is December 2017.

I was homeschooled for the majority of my education which enabled me to assit my younger brothers and sisters in their studies. I taught a few Science classes including botony and a study of birds and have tutored in highschool math as well. I played volleyball, took 3 years of piano, and was a member of Chior as well. I worked as a teachers aide in a preschool for 2 years. I worked with children from the age of 6 weeks to 5 years. I plan on going to college for either business or diognostic sonography.
I love working with kids of all ages. All children are unique and they all learn in different ways. I believe its the teachers responsibllity to understand how their students learn best and then help communicate the curriculum to them in a way that they will best uderstand and retain that knowledge.

After having raised 4 children, I know that each child has a different learning style. One may be very able to understand abstract thoughts and teaching styles while the other may not. Therefore, tutoring must be done on a very individual basis. I believe it is the teacher's responsibility to listen and observe each child so that the appropriate teaching style can be effectively used for each child in an effective and relaxed manner.
As a mom of 4 children ages 16-23, a college graduate, and a community volunteer I have a great deal of knowledge in the areas of mentoring and encouraging youth. As an honor graduate of UW-O and a high-GPA graduate at Ashford University, I have proven that I am successful in researching and writing at both an academic and business related level. As a mom, I have had countless hours of helping my children become successful students throughout thei ... read more

I go through all the concepts with the individual pertaining to what portion of statistics they are studying at that time. I will then walk them through a couple of examples demonstrating how to properly obtain the correct answer. I will follow that up by asking them to do a problem without any direct instruction from me. I will watch them work on the problem to assure they are working on it properly. If any mistakes are made I will politely point them out as the individual is working. Finally, I will ask them to work on problems completely on their own and I will check their answers when they are done. I feel the only way to learn statistics, or any math for that matter, is through repetition and working on a lot of problems.
While going to college at the UW – Eau Claire, I've been a math and statistics tutor for the past four years. I've also been a Teacher’s Assistant for a stat ... read more

I love to teach and help children of all ages (including adults) to further gain knowledge. Understanding is the biggest challenge that we can struggle with in this life. If we can work together to understand what has been found out, we can work together to create a more peaceful mind and world for our future. I am a firm believer that it takes hard work to accomplish goals but it also should include the lightheartedness of life.
I have experience with assistance in teaching yoga, childcare, and with those who have mental disabilities. I am a student at University of Wisconsin Fox Valley, receiving my Associate Degree of Arts & Science at the end of May 2011. I graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute,a college that prides itself in a rigorous curriculum with a strong emphasis on projects that its students prepare for a real world experience. WPI’s fast paced 7 week terms helped me learn time management skills, self teaching, and working in groups. I have earned a BS in chemistry with a focus on organic synthesis, as well as a concentration in history, specifically the history technology. The projects I completed include creating and analyzing a new organic compound, traveling to Africa to research Roman water technology, and working at the Tower of London Museum to research visitor satisfaction. Teaching has been a lifelong practice of mine, whether in a job by choice or in my life by happenstance. I consider myself a natural teacher. I taught Sunday school in high school. I then went on to get a degree in education from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. I taught several years at the preschool level. Since having my son, I have spent many hours volunteering in the public schools. I understand that due to the sheer numbers and environment of our schools, there are many children that may get lost in the system. I know that I can make a difference in the life of a child by helping them one on one.
Teaching takes patience. I believe children need to be met where they are and taught according to their own talents and strengths. I have experience working with children who do not fit into mainstream classrooms. I have patience. I have energy. I have a great inte ... read more

As a graduate of bachelor and currently a master’s candidate of a biomedical engineering program, I’ve taken courses in various departments: math, physics, engineering, and biology. One of the most important skills I learned was piecing together the techniques learned all of the classes, to solve and communicate multi-disciplinary problems. A strong basic educational core is vital for success in any field. I understand the importance of not only science and math in engineering but also English since one must effectively communicate ideas to others with different backgrounds. Studying Spanish in Mexico further diversified my abilities.
I love teaching in a hands on style in which the student not only has an algorithm of how to solve a specific problem, but has a thorough understanding of the concepts behind the algorithm. I enjoy having analogies or hands-on activities to demonstra ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I was an exceptionally driven high school student, taking the most difficult schedule my small private school would offer. My course work included AP calculus and AP US government, on both exams I received good marks. In college I studied a wide variety of classes in pursuit of a degree in the liberal arts. My main foci were history, foreign languages and English literature and grammar while maintaining a love for the sciences and mathematics. I have spent the last two years teaching English as a second language in China. My time there was spent teaching the oral skills and tutoring in reading and writing.
As a student I enjoyed most the teachers who facilitated learning. Teachers who lead students on a road of discovery as they learned, who taught me how to think and not what to think. I model my teaching after the same style I enjoyed as a student. Helping a student disco ... read more

It is very important that children enjoy learning at an early age. I like to give children the opportunity to be hands on and use as many learning supplies as possible from note cards to games. Learning comes with time so it is important to be patient and let the child understand they are important along with motivating them. Each child is different so it is important that you go with what works for that child.
