I have taught English and Reading for over 30 years. I have currently employed as a GED Instructor for WWISCAA organization. I have taught middle school and secondary English and reading. I am also certified in curriculum and instruction and a virtual online facilitator. I graduated from college in 1979, but i have continued my education and have gotten 2 master's degrees. i am currently working on my PHD in curriculum and instruction. I have served as a substitute teacher in Hayward, CA for 1 1/2 years. I worked as a tutor for Learning & Loving It in San Jose, CA for 3 years. I served as a tutor and teacher of adult education in Loganville, GA for 1 year. I am currently on the substitute teacher roster for the Vicksburg School District, and I have been so for two years. I first introduce myself and get to know a little about the student I am tutoring. Then, I establish a baseline of what they have learned so that I can direct my attention to their strengths and weaknesses. Finally, I get into the material with the student and show them how and why the material is important and applicable in the world in which we live.

I have a Master of Arts degree in US History. I also teach online for a major online university. This has helped to me to understand what a student needs to know in order to succeed in college today. I believe that most students can do well in History or other subjects if they are taught the subject material and studying skills. In the past, I worked at a school for high school boys who had failed in school or who had trouble with the law. I was able to get them to pass US History and, in many cases, to do very well in class. The study skills they learned were able to help them in other areas too. I believe most students can succeed if they are taught good studying skills. I teach study skills, organizational skills, and note taking skills. I do not only teach names, dates, and places but I also teach them to learn to be able to retell the narrative which helps them to remember the name

During my education at Alcorn, I have helped a myriad of my colleagues with papers, historical facts, and a general/detail understanding of a given historical topic. I would routinely do this three to four times a week. This opportunity helped to expand my knowledge and expound the students. My teaching style is to merge technology, current events, and thought provoking question into one. I related the given subject to the student as best as I can. This makes the subject personal and it makes the information easy to retain.
