Guitar is one of my top subjects!

As the Director of Curriculum and Program Development as well as the lead instructor for two music schools, my background has seen me teaching about 70 students a week while implementing several programs that focus on the quality and administration of all academic programs in the school. These programs offer opportunities for students to focus on songwriting with a strong emphasis on theory and applied musical knowledge. The programs allow students to develop group etiquette, arranging skills, and an understanding of moderate to advanced level theory while learning about the studio experience. The experience as a Director combined with graduate study has allowed me to be involved in the development of instruction materials, level requirements, improvement in the school’s methods of composition teaching, teacher hiring, and the evaluation of fellow instructors. I believe the best teacher for a student is a student due to the easy connection. Everyone learns differently and I can help a student in the most efficent way for them to learn.
I have tutoring experience from family, and friends to jobs taken off of job sites. I have tutored many different courses before and will go out of my way to help a student in need if I am unsure of something. All of the subjects I put that I can tutor I can effectively help a student understand. I do not get frustrated and understand that different people learn different ways and will accommodate for that as best as possible.

A Little Bit About Me...

My approach to teaching is to first make a general assessment of the student's skill level and having the student play what he or she is comfortable with on their instrument. I try to make sure that a student is getting comfortable with the music they are learning before leaving the lesson by breaking down the subject matter and going over it a few times. I also encourage students to bring in music that they like to listen to and would like to learn how to play to keep them motivated. I don't believe that there is one way to teach everyone and so my approach from one student to the next may vary. Overall, I try to keep lessons personal because after all, learning music is for the student's enjoyment.
I have taught private lessons for guitar and bass guitar students of all ages, skill levels and backgrounds since November 2007. I can teach many styles of music such as traditional cl ... read more

I use a variety of teaching styles and methods for children. I use various styles of music, composers and performers in lesson plans. Currently I am using books on music and musicians as part of my lesson plans. I believe literature is extremely important in teaching children. I am direct with children in my classroom. I give them expectations, I set goals, and I follow through. It is important for an instructor to state exactly what is expected of the student in order to help them achieve their goals.
I have been teaching children of all ages for over 25 years. My primary expertise has been in music education. I love and enjoy teaching all ages, either beginners or advanced musicians. I always maintain a fun, learning environment. Most importantly, I am patient with my students. Music is like a second language and can seem like learning to talk all over again. I understand that students learn at different rates and I always keep my students interested in playing the guitar. I always incorporate fun into lessons while at the same time making sure students practice the materials given to them.
I attended Berklee College of Music and received a bachelor’s degree in Guitar Performance. I took many courses that dealt with the traits and tendencies of different genres of music along with music history. I also took a pedagogical course in private instruction, giving me valuable knowledge on methods on how to approach students with a curriculum that fits them. As an undergraduate, my focus for studies in English were both Critical Literary Analysis and Creative Writing. Analytical writing was stressed heavily, giving me the ability to interpret a text based on intrinsic value. The creative tract allowed me to experiment with my own abilities while keeping in mind strategies implemented by others I have read and studied. A requirement for all English majors at the university was to have intermediate skills in a foreign language. I have taken four semesters of Spanish at the college level with additional language labs. Spanish was also my foreign language of choice throughout secondary school and I have had first hand practice from my work in Guatemala.
