I worked as a Teacher's Assistant at West Virginia university and taught my own section of a one credit course required of all freshmen students while working on a BA in English with a concentration in Creative Writing. A Little Bit About Me...

I come from a teaching family, and continue to learn from teachers myself. I feel that because I am still eager to continue to learn new things, I can appreciate a good teacher. It is very important to let children know that there is no wrong or right way of doing their work, as long as it is done correctly. They also need to know that their methods are their own. Children needs reassurance. When A childs' work is not done to one's full potential, it is not my strategy to make them feel like less of a child. It is however, my strategy to work with that child until he/she understands WHY the work was not done correctly, and then let him/her correct the work themself. This in my opinion, lets a child know that we believe in him/her. That is the most important lesson a child can learn. That they are their own person and that they all have the potential to achieve the goals set for them.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is aimed toward getting the student to master the skill for the long term. It is my belief that a lot of teaching is to the state tests; students do not retain skills when that is done, and the concepts for reading and writing, have to be retaught. I teach the student to look for the question being asked, and to answer it fully. I teach the student how to read critically, and look at the structure of writing and how it is put together to achieve its purpose. In short, I not only pass on the method, but the knowledge of how and why the method is used.
