I have a real passion for making learning as fun as possible. I also firmly believe that there isn't one approach to learning math that works for everyone. I pride myself on being able to identify how everyone best learns, and customizing an approach that fits each individual student's needs. This is why many people struggle in a traditional academic setting with math where teachers don't always have the luxury or the ability to meet each student's needs. I understand this, and I can definitely help.
I have a passion for teaching and helping others. While getting my law degree (more on that below), I tutored math at all levels (K thru College Algebra) at Huntington Learning Center in Jackson, MS. I built a strong reputation at the Center for working really well with students, finding the right approach for each student, and getting great results. Many parents scheduled their ... read more

Calculus and Probability

Easygoing. Math is fun! I believe everyone has the ability to understand and apply math, or in other words, to be good at it. My general approach is to focus on the logical foundations of a given subject and then to exercise that knowledge on practical applications. Nearly everything you need to know is right there in your text! It just takes a careful and thorough reading of the material, much like any other subject.
I have zero formal teaching experience. However, I do have a great love for the beauty of math and a great interest in helping others reach their mathematic potential. I have spent a great deal of time with Calculus and Probability with a focus on detail and problem solving during the course of my actuarial studies, and my algebra skills are incidentally very good.

I have spent over 30 years in business and financial consulting. My lifelong passion has been for mathematics and education. I have reached a point in my career where I can focus on giving back of my talents to students through mathematics education. I have minimal formal teaching experience (student teaching and adult education at the college level). But my career has included extensive education and training of adults from diverse skill levels and cultural backgrounds. I am well versed in the real-life application of mathematics in business, finance, and insurance. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that each child has its own learning style, therefore as a tutor you must be able to adapt quickly to the specific needs to every child. I think that the most important thing in tutoring is gaining the attention and confidence that you know what you are doing and talking about. I also live by the belief that repetition is the father of learning.
While in college, I have worked with numerous tutoring programs both paid and volunteering. I worked for two years as a tutor mentor for the Upward Bound Program, where I managed a group of 12 college students that tutored and mentored 75 low-income and first generation students in grades 9-12. Also while in college, I have have had the opportunity to work closely with numerous Metro Public Schools around the Nashville area. Currently I am working with the Martha O'Bryan Center at a Reading Achievement Program Tutor.
