My comments on tutoring English ESOL : I have been teaching as a foreign language for over 10 years, and I am sure I am competent enough to do that in the USA as well.

I try to balance the methods I got in touch with, always adapting them to the students' needs of learning.
I have taught mainly through the communicative approach, but I consider drilling and using some "not brand new" techniques that I am sure that can help students learn. On the other hand, I always keep my eyes on what is modern and try also to make learning something practical and real for them, so it can be effective. As I mentioned, my experience ranged from more audio-visual methods through the communicative approach.

I have taught French and German in both public and private schools from grades 1 through the college level for over 30 years. My most recent experience was in a public high school, grades 9-12, where I taught for 25 years. I have a bachelors and a masters degree in French literature with a minor in German and am National Board Certified in French. I have also taught humanities and am certified in world civilizations.
Teaching has been a motivation for me for all of my working life. I have experienced the joys of my student's successes at the high school level and then on to their university courses or in their own work experiences. It is important to explain and have students experience learning from a number of different angles. Each day involves reading, speaking, listening and writing in the target language. The more senses involved, the better a student can grasp a skill.

I know the value of a tutor in a young person’s life. As a child I struggled in math, but working with a tutor I overcame my difficulties in this area and eventually went on to complete calculus level two and even become the math club president in high school. I have earned two degrees, a Masters in Business and a BS in Finance which have allowed me to gain extensive skills in math, statistical analysis, finance and writing.
