Everyone absorbs knowledge differently so it is important to cater to each student's particular needs. I am a very hands-on learner and I feel that is the best way to be taught, especially outside of a classroom setting. I participated in a mobile internet App project for a startup technical company. The major goal for the project is to do financial forecasting for the company. In the group, my job was to help create a business plan report and translate from Chinese to English. I also worked on cash flow forecasting. I received my Bachelor's degree in 1989 and worked as an assistant engineer in Binghamton NY until I started my masters program at SUNY Cortland. I have held Physics, Earth science, Chemistry and Biology appointments in the years that followed in a variety of School districts throughout the state. In science and math the learner has to practice much like learning to play a musical instrument. It helps if you can bring real world applications into the classroom so it is meaningful to the students otherwise they feel like they are learning something just for the cause of learning.
While completing my teaching degree I taught for three years with troubled youth. Subjects were regents level and the subject was earth science and algebra or course I as it is called in NY. I am a visual learner, and so my first approach to teaching is using visual aids. I usually draw, use diagrams, or try to paint a mental picture for my students of what I'm trying to teach them. I am excellent at explaining complex terms so any layperson can understand them. I have only worked with teenage/young 20s people, so have less experience with a younger crowd.
