All of these areas come together to work as one complex mechanism, and in order for an individual to be a successful reader they must be successful in all of these areas. An individual must have the skills and compensatory strategies needed to help them master these various components to the reading process. My style has always been to encourage questions from the student or with the many people who have worked for me over the years to challenge the status quo. I encourage individuals to stretch the envelope and to seek different solutions rather than accept what has been done before. I have also stressed that there is never a bad question or wrong to think outside the box. For example I have always asked students, "Why study history?"
