I have always been driven by helping others. I graduated college and got into the environmental testing field as a chemist. I have been doing this for 6 years. I am currently working towards my certification to becoming a chemistry, physics and math teacher.
I know that every student learns differently; so as a teacher, I must find the best way to teach each student and transfer that into my lessons, so that all the students get involved. I also believe in more hands-on and relating information to modern day things that the students can relate to, which will allow them to re-call the information better.

While obtaining my biology degree from LeMoyne college I worked with underpriviledged children in an afterschool program. This program was aimed at keeping these children off the street while their parents were at work along with helping them improve their grades. My duties included helping them with their homework and tutoring them in problem subjects as expressed by their teachers. This was a volunteer job that I found very rewarding. While my experience is with elementary aged children I would love tutor subjects more specific to my degree as well.

I began school as a Biology major for 2 years, so I have a great science background. I love to teach children. I finished my Masters program in December 07 and began teaching at the school I did my internship at, Briarcliff MS. I taught grades 6-8 and filled in for a Special Ed teacher at the end of the year. Also during that time I tutored a group of 6 graders in Math.
I don't think there is anything better than the feeling of helping a child learn. Every student have the ability to learn, we have to adapt our teaching styles so that all students can understand. A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching and appreciate that subjects such as chemistry can be very difficult for young people. This difficulty is often present for two reasons. The first is that chemistry is not necessarily intuitive. It studies particles that are too small to see and cannot be observed directly. The second is that most of the basic theory is derived with very advanced math and most students are taking chemistry in the tenth or eleventh grade. This means that a conceptual understanding is crucial to success. I attempt to employ easy examples and analogies while patiently talking through problems and constructively giving students a chance to discover answers.

I received my PhD degree in 1983, and then worked for about two years at Harvard University with E.J. Corey, winner of the 1990 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Afterwards, I worked in the pharmaceutical industry for 13 years, and then started a small company doing outsourced research. After selling that company, I became a Visiting Professor teaching organic chemistry at Union College (a two-year position). I enjoyed teaching and students generally enjoyed me also. Even though I was a demanding professor, my student evaluations were extremely good and many students shared how much they had learned.
