Special Education is one of my top subjects! I taught 5th and 6th grade special education in both the self-contained and in-class support classroom for 12 years. I have a rich experience in teaching diverse populations, from schools in urban Philadelphia, metropolitan Honolulu, and rural South Jersey. I was named Teacher of the Year in my last district.

I have taught Special Education in the public school system for over 13 years. This exposure to the needs of students and the strategies that play such an important part in helping students succeed led me to eventually begin scoring PRAXIS tests. After 3 years of scoring, I was offered a position as a scoring facilitator who introduced constructed response questions, discussed rubric requirements, and monitored the scores given by groups of 10-14 scorers assigned to each question.

We will discuss the scoring rubric used on the constructed responses, examine examples of potential scenarios, and review responses and how they would have scored and why.

I have lived in South Jersey all of my life. I received my degree in Accounting from Stockton and have spent most of my career in finance working my way up to Controller for several businesses. When I was laid off, I had always wanted to try teaching and I loved it. I love working with kids (I also coach baseball and football), I really get a kick out of passing my knowledge onto them and seeing their face when it sinks in.
Math to me is like a puzzle... if you can imagine the pieces in your mind, fitting them together in practice is so much easier. I am extremely patient and easy going, even in coaching, most kids gravitated to me because I could speak to them on their level. You have to explain it in a way that kids can understand.
