No two children are the same, and we know that this is correct, so therefore it applies to their learning ability as well. I believe all students have the ability to succeed. In my experience, the most important thing to remember is that all students learn differently, and sometimes what seems like an impossible task just needs to be presented differently for better understanding. Relating the material to situations and applications that are relevant and familiar to that particular student is a much more productive and beneficial way to have students retain information. The majority of my experience lies within the field of Human Services/Counseling. However, I have substitute taught for about 18 months, elementary level and high school level. In addition, I have tutored foreign languages on a college level for two semesters.
I have always enjoyed teaching. I try to take into consideration the individual's learning style when teaching. Many kids learn best when a "hands on" approach is incorporated into the lecture or instruction. I have worked with youth for almost 10 years, working in schools, summer camps, and most recently as an director of (3) afterschool programs. I worked as a para-educator for 3 years in a school in central VT, helping tutor a 2nd grader and a 7th grader with their academics
I enjoy working with youth, ever since I was in college I have had jobs where I worked with children. I think their fun, and great to be around.
