A Little Bit About Me...

No two children are the same, and we know that this is correct, so therefore it applies to their learning ability as well. Some children need visual simulation to really ingrain the principle that is trying to be understood. While other's learn by complete repetition. My teaching style is all relative to the child and the subject area being covered.
As an average person, I enjoy teaching children the values and importance of their education while befriending them and understanding where they are in relation to their social-emotional, physical, and educational development.

My scholastic work includes a PhD in Mathematics and a MS in Electrical Engineering. I have taught and done research in mathematics for over 30 years and have tutored students at the high school and college level during the same period, as well as mentoring them in research projects. One of the more enjoyable aspects of my career was working with students in one-on-one tutoring situations. I have only worked with students at the 8th grade level through adult, but have been able to engage students at every level of ability. I seek to understand each student's strengths and weaknesses, as well as his or her most beneficial learning styles, and to use those styles to develop the weak areas while capitalizing on the strengths. I believe all students have the ability to succeed. In my experience, the most important thing to remember is that all students learn differently, and sometimes what seems like an impossible task just needs to be presented differently for better understanding. Relating the material to situations and applications that are relevant and familiar to that particular student is a much more productive and beneficial way to have students retain information.
