I first began tutoring under the direction of Nancy Donohue-Berthiaume at Quinsigamond College. I turored in Introductory Accounting, basic and college level mathematics. In my Sophmore symester, I was presented with a challenge. A young man who was both Dislexic, and Mathlexic was failing basic mathematics. In less then 1/2 hour, I was able to help him go from failing grades to straight A's. Later, I tutored fellow students in Pre-Calculus while taking the course myself. I ended up with a 4.0 GPA in that class. Later, I was provisionally certified to teach in 7th & 8th grade english and mathematics and in recent years I have felt more and more, because of my desire to help other's I would like to persue tutoring if possible.

I have taken math for 4 years in college. It is a subject that I very much enjoy-so much that all of my sons are also strong in mathematics. My oldest is a national merit scholar finalist, and my youngest son is captain of his high school math team. Math is fun, like a puzzle-once the student sees this fact, they begin having more fun and less fear of the subject.
I am a patient teacher, and I use many different ways of communication. I try to find the style of learning best suited to my pupil. Removing the fear of the subject seems to be the most important part. I would want each student in my classroom to feel wanted and feel a sense of their identity present even when they leave the classroom. Each student should be given attention. To understand what they feel and how they react to the material being presented to them is very important to me. I would encourage students to learn and let their views be heard. Classroom discussions and debates can be great tools when you want students to become active and to voice out opinions.
