A Little Bit About Me...

As an average person, I enjoy teaching children the values and importance of their education while befriending them and understanding where they are in relation to their social-emotional, physical, and educational development.
No two children are the same, and we know that this is correct, so therefore it applies to their learning ability as well. Some children need visual simulation to really ingrain the principle that is trying to be understood. While other's learn by complete repetition. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is straightforward - proceed from the simple to the complex. It appears most subjects require this approach. I find it both helpful and important to try and relate situations encountered in day-to-day life to the specific subject problems.
I earned a BS in Aeronautics and have completed some graduate work in aerodynamics and meteorology. I really want to help kids succeed in school and be in charge of their learning even after I am no longer their tutor. I like to inspire them to learn.
As an undergraduate at MIT, I have a deep understanding of mathematical concepts, and have complete master of those taught at the high school level. I started teaching right out of college. Taught high school and college part time for 6 years. Left teaching for the computer business where I worked for 36 years. Retired from HP in 2001. Went back to teaching. I taught at Mount Royal Academy in Sunapee, NH for 7 years. I taught College Algebra and Pre-Calculus at River Valley Community College i Keene, presently as an Adjunct faculty member.
Most Math books recommend teaching for about half the class and then let students work some problems in class. I find this works well, it allows questions and the class becomes interactive. I encourge questions while I am introducing a subject and find it gives me a chance to use different examples to get a poinnt across. Any assignments I give outside the classroom can be addressed in the next class.
