I am a very hands on, activity based teacher. I follow the rule of Explain, Example, Exercise. I make sure to have many different types of learning so that each student can be successful. I want my students to be excited about my class, so I am always changing and molding my activities to stay current. I have a classroom that is full of colors, and ideas. I try to get my students to have a higher level of thinking, and help them along with inquisitive questions, and opened ended statements.
I have a BFA in Graphic Design and a MS in applied technology education. I am also currently pursuing my administration certification. Because I enjoy and see the wonder in science and I like to show that to students. If they see a reason to want the knowledge, and see how it can expand their horizons, then they will be more open to learning. A common problem with individuals needing tutoring is that they sometimes do not think they have the "smarts" to learn the subject. My first objective is to show them they have the "stuff" to get it! Then I show them how it can be fun. This needs to be balanced with the practical need to get passing grades and complete the course work. My style is marked with a belief in the student and I encourage them and acknowledge their progress.
