My comments on tutoring Dyslexia : I have been a special education teacher for most of my teaching career specializing in dyslexia. I am a trained, certified dyslexia specialist and have been working with students with dyslexia for 8 years. I feel that the program that I use is very beneficial because it is a multisensory approach to teaching students to read. I also teach study skills so that my students become successful in school.

I have been in Education for 19 years, but have been a teacher much longer than that! I have been involved in teaching somehow since I was a young girl, working as a Sunday School teacher or as a teacher for Vacation Bible School, as a camp counselor for the YMCA Daycare program and as a tutor while in college. I have been a certified teacher for 19 years, spending most of those years in Special Education. I started my career as a substitute teacher in Northeast Ohio, moved to Texas to teach Special Education as a resource teacher, moved to teaching third grade and then back to Special Education as an Intervention Specialist working with small groups of students in all grade levels. In 2007, I became a certified Dyslexia Specialist and immediately felt I had found my niche in Education. I love working with small groups of students, really focusing on their individual needs as learne ... read more

My comments on tutoring Dyslexia : Lang based learning disability

I teach using a multisensory approach. I also teach from the known to the unknown.
My niece was having difficulty with learning to read. She attended a well known reading center, which did not improve her reading skills. Then she was diagnosed with a language based learning disability. I began researching and I found the Orton- Gillingham training program. I began training and tutoring at the Akron Learning Center. I have also tutored reading for A+ Abilities Plus. I continue to work with my niece and she recently score advanced on all areas of the OGT's.

After graduating from high school in June 2003, I went on to further my education at Kent State University of Kent, OH. At Kent State, I majored in Special Education: Mild to Moderate Disabilities. Upon completion of my program and graduation from Kent State in December 2007, I received my Bachelor of Science in Education. I graduated with the honor of Magna Cum Laude because of a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.74. As a special education teacher, I have a great deal of experience in working with beginning readers and writers, as well as beginning math. However, I am certified to teach learners in grades K-12. Since graduation, I spent 3 months as a substitute teacher, where I worked primarily with elementary school students. A Little Bit About Me...

I have an innate instinct to teach and a drive that brings me great satisfaction from teaching. In working with children from preschool age through high school, I have come to recognize the uniqueness of each age group but have developed no preference as I enjoy working with all children. I have found that I have been able to meet the needs of the most challenging students both academically and behaviorally in a wide variety of environments. From all of my vast experiences I have found that I can teach anyone, anytime, anywhere and they will learn no matter what challenges are present. Every child can learn and every child can succeed; it takes a special person to see the strengths of each child and build upon them.
I am a 2006 honors graduate of Kent State University's Early Childhood Education, earning both an AS and BS and am currently working on a MS in Special Education. ... read more

As a young student I was very motivated to attend medical school at a young age. I received a bachelor degree, BS, in biology with minors in both psychology and chemistry. After graduating with my undergraduate degree early, I unexpectedly found a passion for teaching. Currently, I am working towards my masters degree, MS, in biology. Along with this I have been teaching introductory science labs for the university. I also, enjoy tutoring, one-on-one, students ranging from 2nd grade to undergraduates, in my spare time. My tutor experiences include interacting with special needs student as well.
As a student myself I know exactly what I want and expect out of a teacher. Learning is exciting for me, and it is important to me that I convey the 'fun' aspects of learning to my students. I am believe in conforming the way I teach to match the student's learning abilities. It is m ... read more

I love to teach and enjoy working with all age groups of children. I believe all children can learn through different methods of instruction. I believe in teaching children through hands on methods and through doing and discovery. I believe through positive reinforcement and praise children can meet their goals and there is no end to what they can achieve. I will continue to best meet the needs of the students I am given and to make their educational experience both rewarding and enjoyable.
As long as I can remember I have always wanted to be a teacher to help all age groups of children. I have both a BS and a Masters degree in the field of education. I have taught for many years as well as been a principal and a tutor in reading, math, and handwriting. I really enjoy my profession as I believe it is one of the most rewarding.
