Writing, reading, and english have always been my passions. My experience entails a well rounded experience of teaching students from preK to adult. My most important position was acting as Director of Education for Sylvan Learning, where I basically ran the learning center. I supervised teachers and all student programs, conferred with parents from the beginning to the end of their experience with Sylvan, and did so much more to develop a positive experience with all clients and teachers involved. A Little Bit About Me...

I focus on starting small and helping the student develop on their own. For example, when I teach how to write a strong essay, we write many drafts of an introduction. Then, we write many drafts of body paragraphs. Last, we would focus on writing a conclusion. Then, by working seperately on all of an essay's parts, the combined product is much stronger. The art of teaching is similiar to building a house: you start with an idea, then a foundation, and finally the framework.
I volunteered at the Ocean County Library writing center for four years and helped my peers construct, organize, and layout essays. I also proofread, edited, and helped in the creative process of their essays. I am curreently working part-time at Ocean County Library (Lakewood Branch) tutoring k-12 students after school in the S.M.A.R.T kids program.

I like to adapt my style to the student's personality and learning style. Some students learn best through visual methods, some auditory and some prefer experiential learning. While textbooks often provide a good foundation, I like to use "real world" teaching if possible. For example, I might have a student act out a situation (renting a car, for example) that he or she may encounter in real life. I am also very patient and this is a key factor for good tutoring.
