A Little Bit About Me...

I am willing to work online, travel to a house, or meet at a secondary location. (i.e. Starbucks). I am very patient and will work at any pace necessary. For example, if there is an upcoming test, covering all the fields needed for that test would take priority.
I am currently a junior at Martinsville High School. Throughout my high school career I have taken multiple math courses such as algebra I, algebra ll, geometry, pre-calculus(currently enrolled), and statistics(currently enrolled). I also have experience in physics, chemistry(currently enrolled), biology, first year German, second year german(currently enrolled), etymology, U.S. history, and World history. I am currently ranked in the top 5 of my class with an unweighted GPA of 4.0. Math is by far my strongest subject but, I willing to work in the other subjects listed above.

A Little Bit About Me...

I worked as a synthetic organic chemist at Eli Lilly pharmaceutical company for five years. I spent the next 20+ years as a stay-at-home mom and homeschooler, teaching my three children from kindergarten until they graduated from high school.(My two oldest are now college graduates and the third is presently in college.) During my years of homeschooling, I taught both chemistry and biology to high school students in our homeschool group. When I tutor, I first strive to make the session interesting and fun. Before beginning, I would strive to identify which types of learning the student excels in and focus on them. I have two years of tutoring experience in college chemistry with the University Learning Center at Penn State. I tutored over twenty students in college chemistry. I am currently tutoring and mentoring a student in High School algerbra and chemistry for free.
I believe in problem-based tutoring for algebra, and construct problems based on the textbook problems whenever possible. I let the student try the problem first, watching closely for any mistakes, and then teach the rules as necessary, and summarize mistakes after each set of problems. However, I can also teach all the rules beforehand if a student has been absent from class. For chemistry, I reviewed class notes with students and then explained the fundamentals whenever there was a question, and then did practice problems with the students.
