I am a chemical engineer and I currently work for a biofuels plant. I consider myself as having a good way of presenting the science behind biodiesel to the other employees who do not have a scientific background. As such, I often have to create spreadsheets and conduct training sessions to explain the mathematics behind the process in layman’s terms. I believe that most subjects are not difficult to master. Most problems come from "under learning" the subject. Repetition may work for some subjects, but with math the student needs to understand WHY a process works. Once this is learned, the rest comes rather easily. When the student takes for granted a way to solve a problem, they are lost when the problem is presented in a different way. But, if the student understands the WHY, the presentation of the problem does not matter.

Math has always been an achievement of mine. I went to school and started out for an engineering degree, completing all the math including hard calculus. When I got to the university level I thought a business degree would be better as it is used in all types of businesses. So on top of taking hard calc, I took business calc, accounting, finance, and economics classes which all focus on math.
I have no real teaching style as I have never really taught anyone. I have always helped friends out while we were in school together and I would just have to figure out at what level of knowledge they were having a hard time understanding and start to help them understand what was going on from that point on.
