A Little Bit About Me...

I am currently completing my final year at Vanderbilt Law School. Over the past three years, I have taught a class and provided one-on-one tutoring for students preparing to take the LSAT. I also taught an upper level course while in grad school (it was in radio production). While I was in undergrad, I spent time tutoring elementary and middle school aged children over the internet. All together, I have helped dozens of individual students in a private setting and nearly a hundred students in the classroom. Personally, I love numbers and have always been very comfortable with math. But my grades and test scores have always been just as strong in other subjects, and I am confident that I can help you or your child in any of the areas listed below.

A Little Bit About Me...

Graduating from Alabama with a BS in Finance, I have a strong grasp of math concepts. I finished with a 3.83 and excelled in history, math, computer, economics, and business classes. After graduation, I moved to China to work with college students in the non-profit sector and took language classes while there for two years.
My teaching style centers around the idea that every kid learns differently. Some understand pictures better some words. Either way someone learns, they stay focused through fun, enthusiastic teaching. Ironically I believe its not always a childs intelligence level that holds them back, its often more the attention the receive from teachers and the style that they filter through. With that in mind, I believe in empowering students to believe in themselves and get excited to achieve goals they never have before. I'm passionate about helping people beco ... read more

As a mind motivator, I am the dynamic teacher that students need in their lives. I love integrating technology, (i.e. PowerPoint, video streaming and interactive games). I understand learning styles and have high expectation for all students. The importance of knowing what motivates students can help me hone in on what students need. I am a hands-on type of teacher, but students only learn by doing, therefore, the preparation of activities based on abilities and learning styles can help student move to the next level. These key components to learning help me plan lessons that are fun and motivational. Teachers should take the time to get to know their student’s needs so that they can build trust, and give the student the educational food that they are entitled to.
Education has played a major role in my life. I earned my degree in elementary education because I believe that everyo ... read more

I have an uncanny ability to see the best in all students, patience, understanding, and flexibilty are virtues in tutoring. Each student is unique and needs an individual style of assistance. As a Mad Scientist, I learned how to make learning science fun. I like to spend a session with my students learning their background and their learning style. My students have always appreciated my ability to look at problems and subjects from different angles. I like to use every day metaphors for teaching math problems and also try to teach students how to use a "process of elimination" style. For example, it is easier to identify whether or not an object is a cell phone by picking out one trait that a cell phone has and determining if the object has that trait rather than describing all the traits of the object and then determining if it is a cell phone.
While obtaining my chemistry degree at Butler, I also completed all requirements for a secondary education license with the exception of student teaching and worked as a math and science tutor with a private tutoring service ... read more

More About This Tutor...

While in college, I have worked with numerous tutoring programs both paid and volunteering. I worked for two years as a tutor mentor for the Upward Bound Program, where I managed a group of 12 college students that tutored and mentored 75 low-income and first generation students in grades 9-12. Also while in college, I have have had the opportunity to work closely with numerous Metro Public Schools around the Nashville area. Currently I am working with the Martha O'Bryan Center at a Reading Achievement Program Tutor.
I believe that each child has its own learning style, therefore as a tutor you must be able to adapt quickly to the specific needs to every child. I think that the most important thing in tutoring is gaining the attention and confidence that you know what you are doing and talking about. I also live by the belief that repetition is the father of learning.

A Little Bit About Me...

As the daughter of educators, I have been exposed to the education system all my life. As a result of this exposure, I became very interested in tutoring and teaching. I taught for two years as a substitute teacher before attending law school. I previously worked as a substitute teacher with Morrow Elementary in North Lauderdale, Florida where I taught test-taking strategies for the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test. Most recently, I have volunteered with Youth Encouragement services as a tutor.
Based on previous experience I have discovered that the same teaching style does not work for every child. I find that explaining each topic and asking the child question gives a clear indication of their understanding. Based on responses to the questions adjustments may be made to address each child's need.
