This includes a lifetime "A" avgerage in English spelling, grammar, and composition, a 15-unit "A" grade on my master's thesis, as well as experience as a college English Tutor and college notetaker for the disabled. I also earned an "A" average for all Geogrpahy/Earth Sciences-related subjects. These attributes help make me a well-rounded candidate for tutoring.
My teaching style is that I determine how best the student learns through observation and direct incouragement, instilling confidence for them to break through all barriers. Making learning fun is always more enjoyable for both students and tutors! I would develop a great rapport with my student(s) and create incentives to stretch the mind and promote creativity. I enjoy tutoring because I find it rewarding to build relationships with students and observe their progress. I recognize that it is crucial to build rapport with students in order to gain their trust and respect, and as a result, I try to discover my students’ goals and interests. Once a student realizes that I genuinely care about her success, she is more likely to work hard and obey my instructions. In addition, I am a patient individual, which is a useful quality to have when one is having difficulty getting a student to comprehend a particular concept. Furthermore, I make sure to praise my students for their hard work because I know that low confidence can inhibit successful learning.
I graduated cum laude from the University of California, Irvine with a BA in history and minors in biology and psychology. Earning a history degree required me to write several essays, including ... read more

I have worked with children age 0 to 17 over the years. I tutored my daughters friends when she was in High School in History and some English especially literacy. My primary experience is with preschoolers but I have also been a day camp counselor for 3rd graders, a Girl scout Cadette leader and volunteered at the teen center.
I look at each student as an individual. I think it is important to determine which teaching style works for that person. I would use this information to choose the best method for each student. I think it is important to make learning fun at every age. Education should not be a chore but something to embrace. It would be one of my goals to limit fears or mental blocks that a student may have because they think they can't do it. I would focus on each students potential for success.

More About This Tutor...

I began my career in education in 1993 as an Instructional Aide. That experience cemented my desire to be a teacher. Since that time I have devoted myself to getting the education necessary for that dream to come true.I now have a Bachelor's in English, and a Master's in Education. While attending school I tutored after-school students and substituted whenever possible. Concurrent with my Master's studies I was attending the teacher training program. I hold an Institutional Recommendation for Credential. My Master's degree has an endorsement for teaching SEI (Sheltered English Immersion), and I hold a certificate for teaching TESL.
