As a composer and performer, with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Theory and Composition, I have always sought to teach music from the bottom up. As a master teacher, with a Master of Science Degree in Music Education, I have worked to develop my own programs and courses of study that teach to any curriculum.
I have worked hard over many years to asses the needs of individual students. Firstly, I assess the learning level and learning style of the student over the first week or two. My teaching style is as varied as the students I have taught. I feel it is important to relate to the student in order to help them learn best. When there are different learning styles, I do my best to use a variety of teaching techniques in order to cater to the need of the student. I feel that follow up is important, as well as repetition and hands-on practice. I am not a lecturer.
