A Little Bit About Me...

A life-long college student, my fulfillment comes from constantly learn new ideas, from understanding the person I am teaching and by adapting my teaching to the needs to be met. The past three years have been spent as a high school Special Educator reteaching and remediating students in Algebra I and Geometry. Prior to that I taught one year as a Special Educator in a self-contained grade 3-5 classroom. I was the Music Teacher for a Catholic school where I taught K-8. Finally, I spent 15 years as a private violin teacher focusing on music theory.
I can best describe my teaching style as flexible. I start with traditional paper-pencil methods. If further clarification is needed I use surrounding objects or tools such as Smart board, manipulatives, different colored pencils, paper-folding or anything else necessary to try. I have been teaching 3rd grade Sunday School for two years. I have been assisting my children in an educational capacity for over 7 years. I have experience in a preschool setting, volunteering with children ages 3-13, and also as a tutor to dyslexic and ADD/ADHD children. I am also a writer currently engaged in finishing my first novel.
I believe in teaching with love, enthusiasm, compassion, understanding, excitement, and discipline. You must keep an open mind, open heart, and open arms to be truly successful. I employ a variety of educational styles in an attempt to engage all types of learners, with a heavy emphacis on hands-on activites.
