My goal in teaching is to help students understand how the scientific process affects them on a personal level. I try to connect science and mathematics to the world around them by helping them to understand science in the context of other disciplines, including art and politics. Furthermore, I draw on my experience in environmental and pharmaceutical laboratories to increase interest in the coursework. I am currently a mid-career scientist who is looking to transition into the teaching profession. I have tutored high school and college students for several years in chemistry, algebra, physics, and geometry. I have a BS in Chemistry and have taken additional coursework in chemistry and education. As an undergraduate at Slippery Rock University, I was approached by my adviser and chair-person in Physics to tutor their physics classes. I accepted their offer and within the two years of tutoring physics I enjoyed helping fellow students learn and understand the concepts of physics. As a graduate of the Department of Engineering at Vanderbilt University, I feel I am very qualified in tutoring Calculus 1 and 2. Not only have I taken the classes both in high school and during my time at Vanderbilt, the engineering curriculum reinforced these theories by integrating Calculus into nearly every core class that I took.
