I have a passion for teaching but waited until I gained some "real world" experience. I found that this has helped me relate to my students since I am able to make meaningful connections to their learning. I like to discover what my students already know about the topic and to expose any misconceptions. Brainstorming activities work well for me. I like to help define the topic in common terms, not the classic dictionary method. I use presentation, discussion, videos and hands on activities. Most of what I do is inquiry based.

My teaching style is simple but effective. With mathematics and physics, the student retains an idea, with the added benefit of a solid intuition if he or she is fortunate enough to work through a problem using his or her's own insights. Guiding the student with the systematic offering of penetrating questions seems to be one of the most powerful methods to aid in the understanding of mathematical and physical phenomena. I currently teach high school science. In the past four years I have taught classes such as physical science (an introductory course to physics and chemistry), biology and anatomy & physiology. Students have different learning styles, so I try to adapt my tutoring style to best suit the needs of the student. I have a unique ability to explain complicated concepts on a simple level. I try to make sure that the student really understands the concepts, rather than just teaching him or her to mechanically do the work. When working on problems, I generally use an interactive approach, in which I ask the student questions designed to direct his or her thinking in the right direction.
