Economics is one of my top subjects! I have a bachelor in Economics

During my four years of studies, I have been tutoring one on one French to Middle School and college students. In a stress free atmosphere, I was able to help students with their homework as well as teaching them the language using a personalized curriculum. What makes me special is that French is my first language and it's a language that I still used everyday to communicate.

Economics is one of my top subjects! Bachelor's degree in Economics from Bowling Green State University Master's degree in Economics with a specialization in Community and Economic Development at Illinois State University One year's experience as an Economics tutor at BGSU

As a Peace Corps volunteer, I learned to adapt my style to the needs of the student, however I like to allow the student to drive the learning activity as much as possible. I also try to incorporate more concrete experiences into the lesson plan as much as possible, combining theory with practice.
I graduated from Bowling Green State University, primarily having studied Economics, French and Spanish. During this time, I studied abroad in Tours, France, and Xalapa, Mexico. I went on to get a Master's Degree in Applied Economics with a specialization in Community and Economic Development and then volunteered with Peace Corps in Costa Rica where I worked with microfinance institutions, helping them to improve the administration of their businesses.

My professional background is in marketing, admissions/career services in higher education, and theology. I have taught undergraduate level theology for over two years at a local seminary and am currently working on my doctoral dissertation in Catholic studies. Evaluations from my students have indicated that I am able to break down complex ideas into manageable concepts. I am also very comfortable with international students.
I believe in making learning fun and relevant for my students. Beginning by learning about the student's baseline comprehension of the subject matter, I then determine the steps which are needed to motivate the student toward the final goal.

I can't really say I have a style since I believe in adapting to the student(s) in front of me. Everybody is unique, so I must use different techniques to convey the same message to different students. I am very patient, I try to have my student thinking with me on the journey to find the answer. I can't give the answer away otherwise that student may never learn.
My tutoring experience started my sophmore year of college, as I was attending EMU. It started in the classroom, helping out classmates, etc. From that moment, people started to ask me for a help on a daily basis. That is when study groups were created, where I would either tutor a group of people or one individual at a time on weekends. I am still tutoring some middle and high schoolers in math and science. I also tutor now college students in Spanish and French.

More About This Tutor...

I love teaching math and science to high school students up to early college levels. I have lots of experience and can be flexible in the way I teach based on the student style.
It’s important to be able to impart knowledge to the student smoothly and only to answer the asked questions. Too much information can cause a student to “overload”. This can make the student afraid to ask questions in the future or to think that the topic is so difficult. A good tutor will try to simplify things and brief the answers so he keeps the child interested to learn more.

I can’t imagine myself not spending the rest of my life teaching. I have worked both in the educational field and the corporate world and without a doubt I know with whom my heart belongs. As a tutor at an Ann Arbor based institution I had the opportunity to work with a number of different backgrounds and styles of learning. I aided a varying degree of students needs such as: grammatical usage, content flow and structure, topic generation, sentence structure, MLA/APA implementation, research methods, written language norms, etc. I have great passion for both education and learning which I hope to share with every student with whom I work. I believe every student is cable of producing a positive educational outcome if given the proper tools and encouragement. Not all students comprehend material in the same way, I believe it is up to educators to help their students recognizes their stren ... read more

My teaching style is very flexible to accommodate different needs and understandings. I first probe to find inadequacies in the student’s knowledge, then present the material in an easy to understand manner primarily focusing on the student’s weak areas. My patience and easy going attitude greatly help tutoring sessions because the student does not feel reprimanded, but rather encouraged through the frustration and mistakes to achieve a greater understanding. My inspiration for tutoring/teaching is pride in my student: there is no greater joy than seeing him/her succeed.
I provided tutoring services in high school and college, thus gained much valuable experience. As such, the most popular question I received during university was "Why are you not an engineering major?" Through earning four BBA degrees in various areas of Accounting/Finance/IT in 3 years, I learned my area of ... read more

My teaching style is simple: get the kids involved. Make the subjects relevant to them. While working as a paraprofessional in a Detroit charter school, I created a number of different lesson plans that attempt to get the children interested in a subject that doesn't readily lend itself to progress. For example, I created a lesson plan tying mathematical functions with NBA stars such as Lebron James and Kobe Bryant. A teacher acts a creative facilitator, one who inspires kids to want to learn and creates an energy within the student or class. I feel very strongly that I can help students succeed in the classroom, and I possess a number of different qualities such as humor, creativity, positivity, and energy.
While I earned a degree in both history and group social studies, I feel I am well-versed in other areas. I currently work at a charter school in Detroit as a math paraprofessi ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I worked a full-time job while also attending school full-time while earning my Degree. I am a person who values the benefits of an educaiton very much. Through my education ,business, and life experiences, I have a lot of valuable things to offer the children you work with. I feel that math is my strongest subject; but I truly believe I can teach any subject to any child up to the 9th grade level.
I am a very easy-going funloving person. But I also expect the same respect from children and their parents as they expect from me. I try to find out what things childen are interested in, then I try to adopt the subject material and my style to use that to help them to learn. Learning should be fun, not a chore.

Although a senior about 20 credits from my BS, I know I am qualified for this job. My passion for Chemistry rubs off on those around me. With a near 4.0 GPA, I always earn the top score in my class, only once did I get less than perfect on a Science test, a 99%. Students began asking for help. From my first Science course, I helped many students drastically improve their grades. Professors gave my name out to students and I have taught many each term. When my Prof. was going to miss class she asked me to teach instead. My lab reports were always perfect; the Prof. copied them for future classes. I earned the only student research grant. Researching a method to detect pathogen DNA; my work continues to be published.
I wanted to excite others as Chemistry had excited me. I teach the material and why it is so exciting. My style adapts to that specific student’s strengths, weaknes ... read more
