Bringing fun and learning together to achieve success!

Hands on learning, use of technology, books, group learning, creative role play of different ways to solve problems.
Many years of experience teaching, working, and tutoring children of all ages. Every child learns in a different way. I want to be able to find the best way and help children have fun while learning. It is important to establish what learning method works best for a child before teaching can take place. A child will be successful if they are having fun and learning in a style that they feel comfortable with.

A Little Bit About Me...

Mentoring style of teaching.
Teaching Philosophy One’s teaching philosophy is continually evolving over time. Evolution occurs because teaching is an ongoing process. This process has brought me to develop my own personal teaching philosophy. The philosophy I have created is one that is student centered. My classrooms have become student centered. I have decided to acquaint myself with the needs and expectations of my students. The classroom culture I desire is one where my students may know they are safe and secure to learn. They need to know they are allowed to fail because one truly learns from one’s failures. Failure should not have negative connotations but to know failing only points out what we need to learn and also know what are successes are as well. In order for this to be accomplished in the classroom, I have developed, for the time being, a teaching strategy. The str ... read more

I am not a teacher; I am an awakener!

Very skilled in teaching a variety of learning styles across the different areas of the multiple levels of intelligences.
I have taught in the education field since 1999. I am very fortunate to have had the privilege of working with a multitude of learners in a variety of environments. Early in my career I worked with adults that were mentally and physically challenged. I found this very rewarding and decided to pursue a degree in education, which lead me on my journey into the world of Special Education. I began working with children and young adolescents who had a variety of special needs and learning styles; I went on to specialized Autism and Special Education for K-12. After working with young children for many years I decided to branch out to work with young adolescents and adults pursuing their high school equivalency. Working with young adolescents and adults proved to be j ... read more

My comments on tutoring Journalism : I am NYS certified in Literacy (grades 5-12) and English (grades 7-12), although I have several years of experience with children as young as Kindergarten.

Holding active NYS certifications in both English and Literacy has had a tremendous impact on the way I teach. I find myself much better able to engage struggling students. Quite often, particularly when it comes to reading, it is the lack of basic comprehension skills that prevent students from being able to fully engage with a text and to perform critical thinking tasks. My experience in diagnosing and instructing students at various stages and abilities of literacy acquisition has helped me garner a talent for overcoming this challenge, and propelling students into higher order thinking.
As an educator, I view myself not as a provider of knowledge, but rather as a facilitator. I aim to encourage the critical thinking that will serve students not only in the classroom, but throughout their lives. In my experience, I have become well-versed in student-centered curriculum develo ... read more

I prefer to work with students from the 4th grade up thru college level, and have experience working with individuals with special educational needs. I believe that each student has his/her own learning style. Some are visual learners, some auditory, some experiential. I try to tailor my teaching to each individual's style. I am patient, caring, sensitive and consistent. I am well versed in all areas of grammar, syntax and composition. I believe that every experience is a story that can be put down on paper and that every student can learn to write effectively. I truly enjoy presenting people with ideas and having them gain the knowledge and capacity to gain the intended results. I have taught and mentored people within my work setting as well. My preference has always been to allow someone to think of ideas after you give them the tools they need; it becomes both productive and rewarding at the same time.
I had a wonderful experience attending MSMC.I learned a wide variety of skills and techniques throughout the Psychology teachings as well as about the intriguing study of Psychology itself. A Little Bit About Me...

In my experience, the approach that works best with all ages is to form a cooperative bond to make the effort more a “we” project than a “you-must-do-this” one. We set goals to be achieved step-by-step, so that the student learns about the process of studying, rather than simply making the “grade.” In general, I follow the steps, including “preview- view- review,” outlined in my book, How to Do Your Best on Tests. I offer praise and positive reinforcement, rather than criticism or negativity; when errors occur, the effort is praised, and we work to learn from the mistake – and to find alternate approaches that achieve the result. This process can raise grade averages as well as enhance self-esteem and self-confidence.
In addition to teaching and providing learning opportunities for all ages, from preschool through adults (including those with special needs), in a variety of set ... read more

My teaching philosophy revolves around the notion that students need respect, encouragement, and guidance to succeed in all of their academic endeavors. I believe the best way to inspire students is by conveying our own passion for the subject through out attitude of reverence for the written word, our knowledge of literature and writing, and our confidence in our own skills as educators. I believe all students can learn to write well when given a relaxed environment where they can learn to express themselves in their own literary voices.
As a college and high school English instructor, I have had the opportunity to teach and tutor students on many different levels. I have found in my own experience that removing a students fear of making mistakes reassures them that without making mistakes one cannot expect to truly learn and understand. After establishing this common ground with my students I have seen a dramatic increase in their self-confidence, desire and motivation to succeed and achieve. Conveying knowledge comfortably to students allows for growth and a rewarding experience for the student and for myself as well. Comprehensive learning should inspire a students willingness to do the best they can.
