A Little Bit About Me...

For students to succeed, they need to be able to have open and respectful communication between themselves and their teacher. Each student brings to a tutoring session or a classroom his or her own self-knowledge about how he or she best learns, and in my teaching I always strive to draw this information out. I work to find those aspects of a subject that are going to cause a particular challenge for a student and those aspects that will come more easily. I believe that in situations where students find themselves comfortable and listened to, I can get a far better grasp of the needs of the individual student, which in turn will lead to more successful learning.

I am a recent graduate of Fordham University, where I majored in Film Studies and minored in Visual Arts. During my time there I honed my skills in painting, graphic design, filmmaking and writing (both creative and academic). Recently I worked with the Tribeca Film Institute on the Tribeca Teaches program, coordinating the in class production of seven short documentaries made by middle and high school students in the South Bronx and Brooklyn that premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. I have been working for a local High School for 3 years now as an instructional assistant. Currently I have 3 math classes. I have 2 pre-algebra classes and one geometry. I basically help students mostly 1:6. I have 8 math students that I work with. This summer I also thought math for the students that have failed classes or that were skipping classes and needed to make up the credit. I have BA in English/American Literature.
