I currently work as a scientist in the biotechnology industry, and have been teaching as my schedule allows. I have taught Genetics, General Biology, Biochemistry and Ecology and Evolution. I have a Master of Science degree in Molecular Biotechnology and I am currently a part time student at Johns Hopkins University.
I am well aware that most of my students will not pursue the hard sciences as a career in academia or industry but I believe that everyone has the ability to grasp scientific concepts that will be relevant in their chosen fields. For this reason I approach every course I teach as an opportunity to help students demystify the myth that science is difficult. I believe that leaning is a dual effort between teachers and students and hold all my students to a high standard, academically and ethically. I hope that at the end of any science course that I teach, students ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Having been in school for 6 years post high school has taught me a lot about the educational system and the means to success. A proper education is very crucial in order to prevent a student from being misinformed and misguided. To prevent that, I help my students to be self-motivated and more aware of local and global events through newspapers. I believe everyone is different based on their backgrounds, therefore, they must be taught HOW to learn effectively. This is where I come in. I can identify what a student’s weakness is and allow them to learn SUCCESSFULLY!

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is modified for each student and their specific needs. When I was a volunteer ESL tutor, lessons were more structured and so I had to follow a fairly specific lesson plan. I would give a brief class lesson (of grammar/conversation) and give many examples on the blackboard. I would try to involve all students by encouraging questions and also asking them questions. I would go around and make sure they could properly complete exercises and I would challenge them with an application of the lesson. For my organic chemistry student, the tutoring was more problem-based. She would ask for help on specific questions/materials she would have issues with. I would go back and explain/draw the problem step by step and then ask her to repeat it. Finally, I would give her extra problems to be sure she could apply the information in a more difficult context.
