As a graduate student in journalism, I taught the introductory writing course. I've since left journalism. I work as a software developer. I continue to publish my writing, mostly in online magazines. I've returned to graduate school. I'm working toward my MFA degree in writing.
I believe in high expectations. Not unreasonable ones, ones that frustrate a child before he or she begins to learn -- my expectations assume a child capable of success. I'm patient. I understand each child is a different learner. A teacher must focus on each child differently. Also it's important to intermittently reward a child.
