I studied Latin and Greek as an undergraduate, as well as French, German, and Russian, because I've always loved languages, especially hard ones. For the last nine years, I have tutored Latin to students ranging from those in middle school to college students and adult learners. Wanting to pursue my study of Latin and Greek further, I took a Master's degree focusing on the later life of these languages in the Middle Ages and how they grew into modern languages. I'm now a lecturer in Latin at a local college.
The key to teaching and learning Latin is patience. My approach combines traditional methods--for example, grammar work and vocabulary exercises--with newer methods that bring the materials alive for the students--for example, stories, word games, and projects. As a daughter of a professor I have learned that studying and learning is one of the most important things in life. Knowledge is priceless and a good that no one can take from you. Therefore I was very ambitious in university. I have started off with International Development but continued my Masters in Arabic in less than two years, because I was so focused and interested. During school I found out that one of the best ways to learn is to teach others. That was the point when I found that teaching was my call.
