Proficient and patient tutor: science, statistics, and math
I like to give a diagnostic test at the first meeting to assess the client's familiarity with the topic, then, customize lessons to fit her or his needs. I aim to build a strong foundation, then, increase difficulty of concepts as client's comfort level with the topic increases. I use materials that are challenging, but not intimidating. I am an instructor, who coaches along the way, rather than doing the client's work for them, to justify the fee. I have learned that the client benefits when he or she is forced to think through a problem and come up with a solution, that he or she can justify and explain. I vary the lessons and materials to decrease client boredom. I assess the client's progress at specific stages to determine proficiency with fundamental and other essential concepts, prior to introducing advancd subject matter.
