As a college graduate from a private, liberal arts institution, I was very much driven to achieve high levels of excellence in many areas of the world of education. I have earned a Bachelors degree in finance, which has enabled me to have a great understanding of many areas of math and business. By taking a diverse course schedule in many areas, including a focus on grammatical, historical, psychological and ethical areas has led me to develop a vast array of knowledge. I have been teaching English Composition at the college (freshman) level for the past three years. Thus, I feel I would be especially helpful as a tutor for high school students who are interested in both understanding what will be expected of them in college English/writing courses and ensuring that their own writing skills meet those standards. I hold a Masters degree in English with a focus in Creative Writing and am currently working on my Master of Fine Arts degree in Poetry at Purdue. I am familiar with the canonical works of English literature taught in most high school and college curricula. I would be equally capable and eager to assist undergrad/grad students.

Typically, after assessing the student’s writing and discussing what he or she perceives to be their strength and weakness as a writer and determining what his or her goals are in terms of improving their writing, I proceed to develop a curriculum or plan that I believe will enable the student to achieve the goals we have mutually agreed upon.
