A Little Bit About Me...

I tutored elementary students while in high school. These students were the ones with slight learning disablities. I tutored in college both in chemistry and biology but mainly chemistry. I have been in the workforce for many years and feel that my knowledge would be helpful to others. I have also tutored in math, mostly algebra.
I don't have a set style. I try to evaluate how the student learns and build from there.

I believe that the most effective type of relationship between a teacher and a student is friendship to reduce any anxieties that may otherwise hinder the child’s progress. More About This Tutor...

For a period of five years, I offered tutoring services to students at the University of Chapel Hill, Duke University, and North Carolina State University. My ability comes from experience...I was not entirely prepared for college when I started, and had to work much harder to successfully complete my degrees. I believe that this has given me a great insight into what students really need, especially as schools continue to do a less than perfect job of preparing students for the future.
The goal of my approach is to enable students to have a level of ownership in learning concepts and ideas. Merely teaching the idea is not enough, and that "Oh, I see" moment must occur to embed the idea for long-term growth. I enjoy relating the ideas and facts to real world examples that almost anyone can grasp.

A Little Bit About Me...

During the past four years, I have tutored students in all subjects. During my collegiate years at Bucknell University, I majored in Biology and minored in Education and Philosophy. I also spent a few hours a week tutoring students of all grade levels in a variety of subjects, specifically math and reading. I taught physical science at Findlay High School for the past two years. Outside of the teaching day, I held small group and individual tutoring sessions for ninth grade students in physical science. With my educational and teaching background I am confident that I will be an effective tutor for all subjects and grade levels.
I believe that all students have the right to a quality education and deserve opportunities to reach their maximum academic potential before graduating high school. While some students may reach their potential in a school environment alone, other stude ... read more

More About This Tutor...

In my 6 years of teaching experience I’ve come to find out that there is no such thing as a “stupid question.” Each child or adult has a specific way of learning according to their own character. That’s the reason some are faster to learn mathematical concepts while others are faster in literary concepts. I believe in going slow and asking my students to explain what they’ve learned in their own words. If they can do this easily it means they have mastered the concepts. I usually encourage pre-reading before tutoring sessions. A student who has read the chapter ahead will absorb information more easily than one who has not read ahead.
I obtained a high honors degree (Magna Cum Laude) in Biology, with a minor in Chemistry in 2005. Due to an outstanding GPA (3.74/4.00), I began to teach even as an undergraduate student. I was hired by the Athletics Department to help my fellow studen ... read more

I have earned my B.S. in Business Administration, studying many different courses. During my undergrad years, I was able to tutor graduate and undergraduate in their areas of weakness. These subjects included Financial Accounting, Micro and Macroeconomics, Literature, and many more. I have been able to teach them but also learn from them. Being a good tutor means being able to understand the ways the student learns. I am passionate about helping others and I will continue to be while pursuing my own dreams.
I enjoy helping others learn. It is a compliment when someone asks for your help. After tutoring and substitute teaching for about 2 years, I have learned that students comprehend material in many different ways. I am able to sit down with each student and ask them how THEY comprehend the material. I then make it to where they are the tutor and teaching me how to learn, however ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Throughout my undergraduate studies at the University of Illinois, I developed a passion for teaching and helping others achieve the academic success that I enjoyed. I tutored during each of my final three years, mostly in the various science classes that I took. During the past year, I have been teaching the Physics section of the MCAT for the Princeton Review, a nationwide test prep company. I have also tutored for a couple different companies, ranging from Geometry and Algebra to Organic Chemistry.
I have always felt that tutoring should offer a much more laid-back approach at getting concepts across to students. This is a chance to learn material in an environment that doesn't bear the pressures and stresses of the classroom and achieving a certain grade. Also as opposed to a classroom, I feel that the student should have the floor. This is their time to ask questions and ... read more

Teaching has been my last career change. My prior experience has been in the field of manufacturing, maintenance engineering services and construction management. I am also certified to teach students in technology and special education.
My teaching style is customized to each student's needs. Because all students have different learning styles my instructions are patterned to maximize that student's particular style. A Little Bit About Me...

Math and physics are heavily rooted in problem solving, so I tend to focus on the problems because if you can solve the problems, then you understand the material. It can be easy to “understand in class” and then get confused on the homework. I work to bridge that gap. When students come to me with a problem, the first thing I ask them is this: “What is it that you do not understand?” Many times they don't know, and that's okay. That's why the tutor is there! So I press on: “Tell me what you do understand; tell me whatever you can about this problem.” And so they tell me everything they can. It gets them thinking, applying theory, and often times they understand quite a bit! They just need help filling in the holes here and there!

As the daughter of an elementary teacher I have had many hours experience working with and teaching young children. I love working with kids and strive to help others. I value education. I try to incorporate an active learning technique that encourages the learning of all students. I include various methods of instruction to ensure that all students' learning needs are met.
I have been tutoring for about 8 years in Algebra, English, Statistics, Criminal Justice, Sociology, and Psychology. The majority of my experience has been working with entry-level students, but I am currently in the process of completing a 120 hour professorial practicum where I am responsible for designing and creating assignments, lecturing, and grading papers in an upper level undergraduate Research Methods course.

My teaching style revolves around a desire to make complicated subjects as simple and accessible as possible. In teaching so many different types of learners, my methodologies are as varied as my students. A teacher's primary responsibilities are to listen, adapt and teach to the needs of a given student--all driven toward the goal of true education. Regardless, my teaching is grounded in the fact that greatest gift I can offer a student is my time and dedication. If a student truly feels how much I care about his or her betterment, that student's success is inevitable.
Throughout my entire life, regardless of the endeavor, I have been driven toward education--both of myself and my responsibility to teach others. I have tutored young children, children with attention disorders, high school and college students, and adults in subjects including math, science, language arts, gram ... read more
