Beginning in high school I found myself driven to help children in need. Through my participation in Mercy Action, I raised money for mentally delayed children, and set up numerous barbeques for them. Later, I began tutoring a young brazilian boy in the 5th grade. He needed help with all of his studies, especially math and english. As a political science major, I have gained experienced in essay writing, grammatical skills and research methods.

My teaching style will vary depending on the class as a whole or the type of student I am working with individually. In order to be an effective teacher I have seen that I need to be flexible with how I present material to a student. If a student is visual I am able to create diagrams and use props to show a concept rather than only speak the material. Some students need hands on and things like manipulatives in math help create a concrete way to remember a concept, and this is also something I do. My teaching style is a hands-on-approach. I don't want students to just learn and memorize history; but to enjoy it and see how it relates to their own lives.
