A Little Bit About Me...

I grew up in Texas and attended Abilene Christian University for four years. This also included two summers in Mexico. I lack only one semester completing my BA in Spanish. However, I chose to marry a Canadian and instead of finishing my degree, I moved to Canada. Over the years, I have periodically used my Spanish while travelling to places such as Honduras and Panama. Last year, I was offered a position as an in-class tutor/translator in our local school system for three Spanish-speaking children. Recently, I was asked to translate a business meeting for a well-known insurance company.
I enjoy working with children of all ages. I have a son with a learning disability whom I am now home-schooling. I realize that patience is key when teaching. 2 years ago when I quit teaching Spanish I thought I did not want to teach again, but when I was called upon to do a semester long subbing stint in a high school Emotionally Disturbed unit, all my original feelings for teaching came back. I love teaching and I love kids. They give me energy. I realized that I was meant to teach, just not Spanish. Special Education is definitely my calling. I am easy going, patient, caring and just want to see kids succeed. I want to make a difference. I want to make kids feel proud of themselves.
I have spent 4 years as a Spanish teacher and the past two years as a substitute teacher while working on my master's degree in Special Education. A Little Bit About Me...

I like to teach by example and give the student the opportunity to learn by doing. I do not do the work for the student, but instead allow him or her to do the work with my support until he or she is capable of doing the work independently. I am patient and thorough with my work. I do not get angry and I do not act strict with students. I also believe that I can learn from them just as they can learn from me, and therefore I always give them to chance to communicate their thoughts and feelings to me.
I received a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish with a minor in political science in 2009. I graduated Summa Cum Laude.
