I believe establishing a solid personal report of respect with a student, and finding and focusing on positive characteristics, establishes a good foundation of trust and insentive for achievement for all parties involved. My good would be to provide the skills that accomplish this focus by reviewing the current status, contacting the subject teacher with proper permissions, and in-put from what the student is experiencing and how he/she feels about the educational matter. With this information a plan would be developed with specific study skills and review and subject goals. My goal would be to show the student that the choices he/she makes will provide the results that he/she desires from his education.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a broad background in the Sciences and Mathematics. In my Teacher Education program, I majored in Science and Mathematics education for both middle and secondary schools. Prior to that, I attended community college to take courses in Computer Technologies and Business Administration, prior to that, courses in Science and Legal Studies, with a background of a BSN in Nursing and the Sciences that were prerequisites to that. I have worked in teaching and in research. In my latest secondary education teaching experience, I worked with students of varied ages and academic strengths and was able to teach both comprehensively.

A Little Bit About Me...

Since I love working and teaching with all children, I have found many of my out-of-the classroom responsibilities to be just as rewarding as teaching in the classroom. I have been invovled with Math tutoring programs at the middle school level, homework help times before and after-school, and one-on-one or small group tutoring sessions. I believe that EVERY student is capable of an "A"; just one student's "A" may be another student's "C". I love to use hands on activities, webquests, field trips, and community involvement as some of my techniques in teaching math; however, some times the paper and pencil method is just as effective based on the problem.
I have just completed my 9th year of teaching in Spring 2009, in which I have mostly taught Mathematics as well as Language Arts, History, and Religion. My BS in Elementary Education along with my teaching minor in Math, has en ... read more

More About This Tutor...

From my tutoring experiences last year, my teaching style would best be described as very proactive. Many of the students were extremely frustrated by the concepts that they did not understand. This created an apathetic attitude towards the subject. Due to the lack of interest that I observed, I decided to go through problem by problem with the students. I talked them through each problem, and asked the students questions, but required them to calculate the answer. As we practiced and practiced, the students began to use the techniques that I taught them to calculate the answers on their own.

A Little Bit About Me...

During my enrollment at the University of Arizona in Tucson, I tutored several students in advanced psychology courses as well as advanced English composition courses to undergraduates. I graduated from the University of Arizona with honors--a member of Psi Chi National Honor Society in Psychology and a memmber of Golden Key National Honor Society. After graduation, I tutored a high school student in geometry. Lately, I have been tutoring a fifth-grade student in math and reading.
I believe that applications to everyday life should be stressed if a tutor/teacher is to pique the interest of their student(s). Rather than stressing rote memorization, I believe it is more important to relate overall concepts in a "partnering" style. It is important to remember that one of the cornerstones of teaching is making the subject matter interesting and relevant to the student's expe ... read more

I enjoy teaching and investing in children. I was credentialed as a Substitute Teacher. When I taught in public schools teachers would request me by name to teach for their classes. I have experience working with elementary ages through high school and even adults. When teaching I try to break complex materials and concepts down into practical illustrations and concepts so the student can see the big picture then fit the concept into that picture. I don't believe in just teaching raw data for kids to memorize, but instead try to illustrate concepts in ways that they can understand to enable them to best understand the material.

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy hands-on teaching and one-on-one interaction with students. Good writing can simplify the thought process, and leads to students becoming better thinkers and communicators. I am easy-going and patient, but I take language and writing very seriously. There is no excuse for poor or careless writing, and I believe that an easily-taught, simple approach, can unlock the potential of any writer.
I achieved an English degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where my senior thesis was selected as a finalist for the UW Creative Writing prize. I am passionate about the English language, but I think that writing is becoming a lost art. Quality writers are quality communicators. As writing in general falls into disrepair, those who can write clearly and read critically will have an edge in every institution they enter--from the University, all the way to the workplace.

I enjoy working with inquiring minds and solving problems. I teaching style is individualized because everyone learns in their own way. I like to get to know the prson by asking a few questions that can open up the problem as to why they do not understand a certain subject. I enjoy teaching students of all ages, and the challenges and rewards that go with it. I believe that students learn at their own individual pace, and as the teacher I need to accomodate this while encouragin progress. My studies in psychology taught me the importance of positive reinforcement and constructive communication to the learning process. I believe learning occurs in small steps and concepts need to be broken down into smaller pieces for learning to effectively occur; these steps need to be mastered before the student moves on. By mastering these smaller steps, students will be motivated to learn.

It is my desire as an educator to help students meet their full potential by providing a learning environment that is positive, safe, patient, and comfortable. I will use a variety of activities and teaching techniques, and students will apply a diverse selection of learning strategies to determine his/her own best way of learning. Creating meaningful, personalized, and relevant lessons is essential to learning. Teaching has been a lifelong practice of mine, whether in a job by choice or in my life by happenstance. I consider myself a natural teacher. I taught Sunday school in high school. I then went on to get a degree in education from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. I taught several years at the preschool level. Since having my son, I have spent many hours volunteering in the public schools. I understand that due to the sheer numbers and environment of our schools, there are many children that may get lost in the system. I know that I can make a difference in the life of a child by helping them one on one.
Teaching takes patience. I believe children need to be met where they are and taught according to their own talents and strengths. I have experience working with children who do not fit into mainstream classrooms. I have patience. I have energy. I have a great inte ... read more
