I try to take a hands-on approach to teaching when possible. I find it helpful to use varied and often unusual objects and materials when teaching a lesson; it tends to make the material more memorable. However I am not above using the standard pencil/paper/textbook approach when needed.
I consider myself to be a "beginner" teacher as I have recently graduated college and received my license. I have spent roughly 500 hours in the field as a result of college course requirements, and I have successfully completed a 12 week internship (student teaching) experience. I have had the opportunity to work in many different subject areas and classroom settings with students of various backgrounds, ages, and learning styles.

All students can learn given the opportunity and appropriate tools necessary to achieve their potential. I also believe that learning must be fun for students to actively engage in the process. I graduated from Ohio University in 1978 with a BS in Education. I went on to earn a Masters degree in Educational Administration. I beleive that patience and kindness are a key factor of working with students. As students are attempting to master content that is difficult, the teacher should demonstrate encouragement and patience. I also believe students learn in different manners. Therefore, if a student is not comprehending the information in the traditional manner, then a different approach is necessary.
Recently, I obtained my Master's Degree in the Art of Teaching Language Arts 7-12. I have worked as a substitute, Ohio Achievement Test Tutor, and summer school teacher for the past five years. A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated with a degree in Physical Science Education, which gives me a strong background in Physical Sciences and in math. I have worked with children and youth of all age levels and nearly every ability. I ran an afterschool program for the Salvation Army, ran a boys home for troubled boys and worked in St. Paul City schools as a substitute teacher and a night teacher at an evening school. I also have worked six summers at a Salvation Army camp. Through these experiences I have worked with both gifted and special needs children and youth.
I believe that all children have the capability to learn if someone is willing to be patient and work with them. I enjoy having fun with youth while learning and teaching those I work with the value of what they are learning.
