A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching style varies on the child in questions ability to learn. I'm patient and will do anything it takes to help the child.
I'm in my senior year of High School, I have worked with my siblings on their school all of my life. I've helped my little brother who has ADHD with his homework, I've worked with him through book projects, spelling tests, history homework, pretty much anything and everything. I'm also very talented in the English area, writing and grammar specifically. Can write with both my right and my left hands, I work well with children no matter the age.

Hidden Talents Tutoring

After graduating from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire with a degree in computer science, I started tutoring in the Academic Skills Center at UWEC and discovered this was a hidden talent. My instinctive use of the Socratic method earned praise from the director right away. While working at UWEC, I gained experience with a variety of learning and developmental disabilities, including Asperger's syndrome, visual impairment, brain damage, and dyscalculia. At the university, a technical college, and privately, I have tutored elementary through college students in math, chemistry, reading, grammar, computer science, computer literacy, and test preparation. A Little Bit About Me...

I began teaching private piano and oboe lessons around 1970 and continued it as time permitted until the present. It is enjoyable and rewarding to see someone work hard and feel with them the joy of their success. I have played all the instruments to varying degrees to be able to teach them. When I began substitute teaching in the 1990s I was able to teach almost every subject on every level. My strengths are reading, mathematics (including algebra and geometry), English, grammar, Spanish, and of course music. I have worked with and accompanied soloists and ensembles for recitals and contests, played in several orchestras, and been a librarian. I have also taught Spanish. My teaching method is to use the principle approach. Each academic subject has foundational principles that make up that subject’s core. To master a subject, a student must understand these principles and then see them expand as the student progresses through a subject. I believe students can be taught problem-solving skills, organizational skills and character-building principles through every subject.
