I hold a permanent license from the state of Ohio for Grades Kindergarten----8. I taught in the classroom for 18 years and was actively involved in the development of individual courses of study at both above and below grade levels. For 10 years I was employed by my local church as Coordinator of Children's and Family Ministries where I worked extensively with children and families of the congregation both one on one and in groups. Currently I am a professional organizer (member of National Association of Professional Organizers) specializing in coaching students in organizational and academic skills, working with families on organizational skills, and tutoring children. I consider myself to be a "beginner" teacher as I have recently graduated college and received my license. I have spent roughly 500 hours in the field as a result of college course requirements, and I have successfully completed a 12 week internship (student teaching) experience. I have had the opportunity to work in many different subject areas and classroom settings with students of various backgrounds, ages, and learning styles.
I try to take a hands-on approach to teaching when possible. I find it helpful to use varied and often unusual objects and materials when teaching a lesson; it tends to make the material more memorable. However I am not above using the standard pencil/paper/textbook approach when needed.
